Aluminum Systems

Architectural aluminum for modern openings

Our aluminum lineup is built around thermally broken engineering for durability, performance, and clean architecture. These systems are ideal for projects that need larger openings, premium glazing packages, storefront and mixed use conditions, and elevated aesthetics.

Why aluminum:

  • Thermally broken frames for comfort and improved efficiency
  • Strong structural capability for large openings and demanding conditions
  • Modern sightlines and design flexibility across project types
  • Systems designed for residential, multifamily, and commercial applications

Tilt and turn vs single hung and double hung

What is a tilt and turn window

A tilt and turn window is a European style window that opens in two ways using one handle. In tilt mode the top of the sash leans inward for secure ventilation. In turn mode the sash swings inward like a door for full opening and easy cleaning.

How they open:

Tilt and turn: one sash tilts in at the top or swings inward from the side.

Single hung: bottom sash moves up.

Double hung: top and bottom sashes move up and down.

Air sealing and drafts

Tilt and turn windows use compression gaskets that press tight when closed, which generally creates a stronger seal than sliding sashes. Sliding windows rely on brush seals and interlocks, which can allow more air movement over time.

Ventilation control

Tilt mode gives controlled airflow at the top of the window while keeping the opening tight and secure. Hung windows ventilate by raising a sash which can create a larger open gap and less controlled airflow.

Cleaning and maintenance

Turn mode swings inward so exterior glass is easy to clean from inside the building. Hung windows require exterior access or tilt in features depending on the model.

Egress and safety

Turn mode provides a large, clear opening. Tilt mode provides secure ventilation with limited opening. Hung windows provide egress depending on size and sash opening but do not offer the same secure vent position.

Hardware and durability

European tilt and turn systems use perimeter hardware that locks at multiple points around the sash. This supports long term alignment and tighter closing. Hung windows typically use a different balance system and latch points.

Key benefits of European tilt and turn windows

  • Better sealing and comfort through compression gasket design
  • Two opening modes in one unit for everyday ventilation and full access
  • Easy cleaning from the inside with inward swing operation
  • Secure ventilation option that is ideal for bedrooms and multi story buildings
  • Modern aesthetics with clean sightlines and robust performance options
  • Strong hardware with multi point locking around the sash perimeter

Best applications

  • Modern homes and renovations where comfort and air tightness matter
  • Multifamily buildings where safe ventilation and easy cleaning are important
  • Urban projects where noise control and better sealing are desired
  • High performance builds targeting tighter envelopes and better efficiency

Common questions:

Do tilt and turn windows have screens?

Yes. Screens are typically installed on the exterior side and can be configured based on window size and operation needs.

Do they work with AC units?

It depends on the opening configuration. Many projects use different ventilation solutions instead of window mounted units.

Are they more expensive?

They can be higher cost than basic hung windows because of hardware, glazing packages, and build quality, but they often deliver higher performance and longevity.
